Things you must consider before you get this service!

VoIP is certainly gaining advantage above PSTN, and has seduced millions of people and enterprises globally.

With the several benefits it offers, either you have already adopted VoIP or are still thinking to get it, you must be aware of the VoIP Cons - the different drawbacks it entails and the disadvantages attached to it. Generally, these are:

Voice quality, Bandwidth dependency, Power dependency, Emergency calls, Security etc…
These points may not be long and freaking enough to affect your decision, but you will definitely have a better VoIP experience if you know of the possible problems to expect and then what precautions to take.

Voice Quality:
Definitely whenever you want to make a call, you don’t want to experience any delays, weird sounds, noise and echo. You like to have a same voice quality just like you would over a landline phone.
It depends on so many factors: like your broadband connection, your hardware, the service provided by
Voice Over IP
your provider, the location of your call etc. Many people are still appreciating high quality of phone calls using VoIP, but still many users complain of poor voice quality due to the factors mentioned above…
Nevertheless, if you Aare sure of having good broadband connection, high quality hardware and a good VoIP service, you can use VoIP without fear.
VoIP is Highly Reliant on Bandwidth:
Another alternative of VoIP is Internet Telephony. When you talk about Internet, you consider bandwidth – your broadband connection. It means, you must have a broadband Internet connection if you intend to use VoIP. Though VoIP does work with a dial-up connection, it is just too slow for VoIP.
As VoIP relies on broadband connection, if the connection goes down, your phone line goes down also. The procedure is simple: with VoIP, no Internet means no phone. This can be very irritating at home, and awful for your business.
If your connection is not good, then you won’t be able to have a good experience of this innovative service provided by VoIP, and in the end you simply start hating, this service,   your poor machine and even the person you are talking with…
Shared connection
A good solution to increase your broadband speed is to reduce the use of your Internet connection for other things like emailing, data transferring, etc. whenever you are talking through VoIP.
VoIP Requires Power
You have to plug your modem, router, ATA or other VoIP devices to the electric power supply for it to work – not like PSTN phones. If there is a power failure, you cannot use your phone!
Emergency Calls (911)
VoIP service providers are not guaranteed by regulations to offer emergency 911 calls, so not all of them offer it. However many companies are making an effort to offer for emergency calls in their service.
Security
Security is a major concern if you are using VoIP, just like other Internet technologies. The most noticeable security concerns over VoIP are identity and service theft, viruses and malware, denial of service, spamming, call tampering and phishing attacks.
